Managing Google Storage
UM System is allocated 100 TB of total Google storage across the entire institution. Because of this limit, storage quotas are in place for all users.
Google Drive (Individual Accounts)
Default quota 5 GB
Google Photos
As of June 2023, Google Photos is no longer available to most new users.
Existing users may still access their photos and add new items as long as they remain within their Drive quota.
New accounts created after June 2023 do not have Google Photos access.
Google Shared Drives
Creation of new shared drives was disabled March 8, 2023.
Shared drives that existed before that date had quotas set based on their size at that time.
If a department has a specific use case that requires a Google shared drive rather than Microsoft Teams, contact your Help Desk.
To ensure you stay within the storage quotas, you may need to move files that you don't need in Google Drive to OneDrive or Teams. Be sure to delete unneeded files from Google Drive after migrating them. You can check your usage anytime under Storage in Google Drive.
